PRAGUE, Czech Republic (AP) -- Petr Rada will replace Karel Bruckner as coach of the Czech Republic's national football team.

Bruckner confirmed his resignation after the Czech Republic were knocked out of Euro 2008.
The 49-year-old Rada, who has been Bruckner's assistant since 2006, also coaches Teplice in the top Czech league.
Bruckner took charge after the Czechs failed to qualify for the 2002 World Cup and managed to advance to all major tournaments since, including the 2006 World Cup.
He resigned after the Czechs were knocked out of Euro 2008 at the group stage.
Rada will first lead the squad in a friendly against England at Wembley on August 20, a warmup for the Czech Republic's 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign, which begins away to Northern Ireland on September 10.
The Czech federation chose Rada over Josef Chovanec, who led the team before Bruckner from 1998-2001, with Rada being his assistant.
Rada has previously coached Czech clubs Slavia Prague, Plzen and Jablonec. He played 11 matches for Czechoslovakia between 1982-86 as a defender, scoring two goals.
As assistant coach, Rada was in charge when Bruckner missed two Czech Republic matches in February this year due to an illness. The Czechs lost both friendly games played in Cyprus, 2-0 to Poland 2-0 and 1-0 to a "B" Greece team.
